A message from President Newkirk

Dear University Community,

Our nation has once again been shocked by a week filled with senseless acts of violence.  The brutality against Tyre Nichols and the horrific massacres that took so many lives in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay—each of these sickening acts challenges the fabric of our humanity and violates the very core of our University values.  We are grief-stricken as we hold the victims and their families in our hearts and prayers.

As a University, we condemn these acts of violence and pledge to work to address them directly through our educational programs, and our engagement as a community.

Counseling services are available to students through Timely Care and through the University’s Employee Assistance and Advocacy Program.  Our Office of Campus Diversity and Inclusion will be hosting an opportunity to join together, in mourning, and support on Monday, January 30th at 5 p.m.

Sincerely,
