Subject:  Redlands Campus Safety Advisory

Public Safety would like to advise the community of a developing situation that we are monitoring.  We have just been informed that last evening (Saturday, Nov. 26), law enforcement on patrol at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum were provided with a note found in the facility that referred to a “shooting at school Sunday 27th 6:00 a.m.”  Four universities in the greater Los Angeles Area were written on the note, including “Redlands.”

While the University of Redlands does not have enough information at this time to assess if this is a criminal threat or if it is credible, we take all such matters seriously.

In an abundance of caution, we want you to be aware of the situation, and we want to inform you of the steps we are taking in response:

  • We have been in touch with Redlands Police Department, who is aware of the threat and will be increasing patrols on our campus.
  • Public Safety has scheduled additional uniformed personnel to be on duty tomorrow.
  • We will begin opening campus tomorrow later than normal in order to monitor activities on our campus.  Buildings will remain locked, and some services may be delayed.
  • We are in constant contact with LAPD and the Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC) out of Los Angeles so that we can continue to monitor the situation and respond.
  • We will let you know if there are any significant developments.

All members of the University community should take reasonable precautions to ensure their greatest level of safety both on and off campus:

If you see something suspicious, report it:

  • U of R Public Safety can be reached at 909-748-8888 or ext. 8888 from any campus phone
  • City of Redlands emergency services can be reached by dialing 9-1-1
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times, on and off campus
  • Don’t prop open locked doors or allow people to follow you into a locked facility
  • Utilize the buddy system, especially when off campus
  • Use the University RAVE Guardian safety app, available through the following link: https://www.redlands.edu/public-safety/rave-guardian/

Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. Please contact Public Safety at 909-748-8888 or ext. 8888 with any questions.
