Public Safety Advisory - Dec. 9, 2022

To: University Community

Date: Dec. 9, 2022

Subject: Security Advisory - Recent automobile thefts on and near campus

Over the past several weeks, the city of Redlands and our University community have experienced several incidents of vehicle thefts and vehicle break-ins from areas on campus, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods and local shopping area parking lots. Unfortunately, the holiday season typically brings increased crimes, such as these, and in many instances, the vehicle owners had locked their cars and maintained possession of the keys.

As a reminder, the University Community is urged to practice enhanced security measures with their parked vehicles:

  • Double-check that all doors are locked, and windows are completely closed.
  • Do not leave valuable items inside the vehicle in plain sight.
  • Park in well-lighted areas whenever possible.
  • Install and set alarms, ignition immobilizers, and anti-theft devices such as “The Club” steering wheel locks.
  • Immediately report suspicious persons or activity to Public Safety or the local police authority.

Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. If you have any questions or information, please contact Public Safety at 909-748-8888 from any campus phone.
