Fire Safety

The University of Redlands maintains campus fire safety through the enforcement of all state and local fire regulations in addition to the campus fire policy.  The fire policy includes the following stipulations:

  • No cooking in student rooms.
  • No appliances with heating elements in rooms.
  • No use of candles, incense, or open flames in housing facilities.
  • No smoking within 25 feet of campus buildings.
  • Hazardous materials may not be stored in residence halls.
  • Misuse of fire equipment is punishable by law and subject to a University fine of up to $500.

Building specific procedures are in place for evacuation of all campus buildings including residence halls.  Evacuation maps with emergency response procedures are posted in each student room.  Additionally, evacuation routes are maintained in accordance with City of Redlands and California State Fire Codes.
