Middle School Program Design
Weekly Mentoring
This is a supplemental service for Rochford Scholars that is available weekday evenings from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the University of Redlands. Mentoring specific to RUSD coursework will be offered. Mentors will be School of Education graduate students and undergraduate University of Redlands students.
Saturday Academy
Rochford Scholars will be required to attend six to eight Saturday Academy sessions per semester. Sessions will be held at the University of Redlands and the Burrage Mansion. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. Students will receive supplemental instruction in English and Math while also learning a college-going curriculum and being exposed to extracurricular/cultural development activities. Snacks will be provided and parents/families must provide transportation to and from Saturday Academies. Academic sessions will be led by School of Education graduate assistants and graduate students. Graduate students will lead the college access curriculum sessions. Supervision will be provided by the program director and coordinator.
Family Academy
The aim of the Family Academy is to provide Rochford Scholars with a college-going culture that extends beyond the school and program into their home life. Parents, or a family member, will be required to attend two (2) Family Academy sessions per semester where information specific to support Rochford Scholars will be shared and discussed as a group. Topics of Family Academy sessions will vary and include suggestions from parents/family members but will focus on supporting student success. Lunch will be provided for all participants, family-style, on Family Academy sessions.
Summer Session
Varies every summer according to the Rochford Scholar needs.
