Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art
All studio concentrations share the following requirements:
ART 131 Drawing
ART 132 2-D Design
ART 145 Introduction to Sculpture (not required for art therapy)
ART 159 Digital Imaging (not required for art therapy)
One Art History course
(Students are advised to take as many art history courses as possible.)
Additionally, Art majors will choose one of the following areas of concentration:
ART 140 Introduction to Ceramics
ART 347 Intermediate Sculpture
(Prerequisite - At least 1 of the following foundation courses {131, 132, 159}, ART 145, and junior standing)
ART 233 Painting
ART 360 Beyond the Canvas
OR
ART 360 Painting the Figure
(Prerequisite - At least 2 of the following studio foundation courses, ART 233, and junior standing)
ART 252 Introduction to Graphic Design
ART 352 Intermediate Graphic Design
(Prerequisite - At least 2 of the studio foundation courses, ART 252, and junior standing)
Recommended: ART 251 Typography
ART 235 Introduction to Photography
ART 339 Intermediate Photography
(Prerequisite - At least 2 of the studio foundation courses, ART 235, and junior standing)
Recommended Additional PSYCH:
The Art Department, in partnership with the School of Education, offers a route to a Single Subject California Preliminary Teaching Credential, which is required to teach Art in California Public High Schools.
