Get on The Bus Donation Drive
Monday, January 8 - Friday, January 19

Description: Get On The Bus unites children throughout California who have been separated from their mothers and fathers in prison. An annual event offers free transportation to the prison for the children and their chaperones.
Hosted by Office of Community Service Learning and Armacost Library

Donate the following supplies for children who are visiting their incarcerated parent:
• Books (K-12)
• Coloring books
• Crayons
• Colored pencils
• Pens

Luminaria Ceremony

MLK Peace Walk

Description: Come rain or shine the U of R community will stand in peace and solidarity for inter-reflection amid the trauma that is occurring nationally and internationally.

  • Start at Administration Building steps Walk in a procession downhill, across
  • Colton Avenue to Hunsaker University Center (stop in front of Armacost Library)
  • Walk in a procession pass Deacon Statue to the Firepit (next to Orton Center) and stop.
  • Walk in procession passed Orton Center to the Memorial Chapel steps (stop)
  • Final stop is at the Quad in front of the Memorial Chapel

Wear: Maroon and Grey
Bring: A visual representation (e.g., poster) that illustrates what you are standing for in peace.

Contemplating the Life and Legacy of MLK, Jr. – Added Event

About the MLK Steering Committee

The MLK Steering Committee, which is to be comprised of students, staff, and faculty from across the university, will seek to accomplish the following goals:

  • Uplift Black and Brown voices
  • Work with the University to make MLK Jr. Day a permanent Holiday
  • Create opportunities of engaged learning and community service
  • Bring awareness to current instances of injustice and encourage the use of Dr. King’s teachings to progress towards justice
