Pokorny Recitals

The University of Redlands School of Music is presenting the 8th annual Pokorny Low Brass Seminar through July 3, 2015 at the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall on the Redlands campus.

Named for Gene Pokorny, principal tuba of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and University of Redlands alum, the week-long seminar brings together some of the world’s finest orchestral musicians and students for a week of master classes, seminars and performances engaging a wide range of musical, stylistic, technical and professional issues in-depth. Students audition to be performers in the master classes or choose to audit the seminar (registration required).

Six solo recitals and two ensemble concerts are presented during the Seminar. The performances are free and open to the public. Seating is limited and priority given to the Seminar attendees.

7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, Frederick Loewe Performance Hall 
Timothy Higgins, Principal Trombone, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra; Sergio Carolino, Principal Tuba, Porto Symphony Orchestra; and World Famous Tuba Soloist. Program includes works by Higgins, Biedenbender, Rush and Portuguese composers Telmo Marques, Luis Cardoso and Filipe Melo.

7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, Frederick Loewe Performance Hall
Dr. Andrew Glendening & Timothy Higgins, trombone; Randall Hawes, bass trombone;e Sergio Carolino & Gene Pokorny, tuba; Yuri Miyoshi, Bill Schlitt & Joel Taylor, percussion. Program includes works by Casterede, Self, Higgins, Premru, Szentpali and Prokofiev.
