Bio

Rae Kate Shen holds a Bachelors degree in Piano Performance and a Masters degree in Accompanying Performance from the University of Southern California. Besides piano, she has also received formal instruction on the harpsichord, organ and briefly on the violin.

Presently, Ms. Shen teaches piano and coordinates the Suzuki Program and the Early Childhood Program at the University of Redlands Community School of Music and the Arts. She is a registered teacher trainer with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and Ms. Shen has studied extensively with Dr. Kataoka in the United States as well as several times in Matsumoto, Japan, along with other well known Suzuki clinicians in the United States. Ms. Shen also trains teachers in the Suzuki Piano method throughout the United States.

Besides teaching, Ms. Shen is a member of the Marina Ensemble, performing in many chamber concerts. In addition, she is a frequent guest clinician at numerous institutes and workshops throughout the United States, as well as a member and an adjudicator for the Music Teachers' Association of California.

Rae Kate Shen's teachers have included James Bonn, Dr. Jean Barr, Madame Gwendolyn Koldofsky, Dr. Macolm Hamilton on harpsichord, and Dr. Ladd Thomas on organ. She has received the Gwendolyn Koldofsky Fellowship in Accompanying at USC and has also received scholarships to attend the Aspen Music Festival where she studied with Brooks Smith and the Music Academy of the West where her teachers were Madame Koldofsky and Martial Singher.
