What does your prison ID number mean to you?

“It's a mark. All of our lives, we have markers. These things that mark a certain particular area in our lives that stand for something, that mean something.

“In early Israel, they would place these markers – usually rocks of a certain shape or size or color – that would mark a certain area. And the area was marked for a certain event. So red would mean one thing, blue would mean another thing.

“It's a marker for me. But if I only look at the negative aspects of that number, I am doing myself a disservice, alright? And maybe even setting myself up for some failures because the number encompasses a whole lot. It encompasses my decision to leave the yard and go to the school.”
