Free Community Class Descriptions


All classes and special events are free and open to students, faculty, and the community. Additional classes and special events may be added at a later date.

The Meditation Room is located in Larsen Hall, room 210.  We encourage you to arrive early to secure a spot in the classes. If a session is in progress when you arrive, you are welcome to join quietly, **UNLESS you see the FULL sign on the doorknob.  If the door is locked, please do not bang on the door for it simply means the class is full.

**New Meditation Room Free Community Class**

Buddhist Insight Meditation, led by Valerie Cusson
Thursdays 6:30pm-7:30pm

This Community Meditation Group includes, a 20-30 minute guided meditation practice, Dharma teaching and opportunities for discussion. The class is suitable for all levels of meditation experience: beginners are especially welcome. This is a chance to come together and practice in a community dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, open and equitable space where all feel seen and heard. Please join us as we open our hearts and minds.

Drop in format. No experience necessary.

Instructor: Valerie Cusson is a University of Redlands alumni who came to meditation through yoga and has been practicing since 2002. She completed Level I Community Facilitator Training with Noah Levine and JoAnna Hardy in 2012 and Level II Community Facilitator Training with JoAnna Hardy and Vinny Ferraro in 2016. Valerie also leads meditation for Meditation Coalition's People of Color Group at InsightLA’s East Hollywood location and previously taught dharma-based meditation through the Dharma Collective at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society in Los Angeles. Recently, she has been leading mindfulness workshops for educators with the intention of developing heartfulness and compassion in those who serve our youth.

Yoga, led by Ian Wittenmyer
Weekly on Mondays, 8:30-9:30 am

(September 9, 16, 23, 30; October 7, 14, 21, 28; November 4, 11, 18, 25; December 2, 9, 16).

This relaxed style of practice fosters a sense of connection with the present moment by placing emphasis on linking breath and movement.
This class is for all levels.

Yoga, led by Mina Jain
Weekly on Tuesdays, 5:15 – 6:45 pm

(September 3, 10, 17, 24; October 8, 15, 22, 29; November 5, 12, 19, 26; December 3, 10).

This free class is easy, effective, and enjoyable. No experience is required.

Kriya Hatha Yoga, led by Armound Mahmoudi
Weekly on Sundays, 5:00 – 6:00 pm

(September 22, 29; October 6, 13, 20, 27; November 3, 10, 17, 24; December 1, 8).

The main objective of this class is to introduce a student to 18 particularly effective postures which have the ability to induce a deep physical and mental relaxation. Through practicing these postures the student will also have the opportunity to heal their body from many disorders and irregularities. The postures are taught in stages and the class is meant for mix level students who have the chance to do the  postures to their best abilities.
