The Culpepper Award, named after Professor Emily Culpepper, the founder of Women’s Studies at U of R, was created to honor a student who demonstrates outstanding work in service, activism, and academics.

This year the Dr. Emily Culpepper Convocation Award goes to Megan Wilensky.

Megan has demonstrated excellence in all three of these categories. Her service to the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies community at U of R has come in the form of organizing our Annual Student Conference. Megan has led these efforts for three years in a row, and this year has been working to put part of the conference online in the form of a website. She hopes that this website will become a regular part of the conference even after we are able to host it in person again. Megan has also done volunteer work for Planned Parenthood and is a double major in Media and Visual Studies and Global Business with a minor in WGS.

I have no doubt that her intelligence, her initiative, and her deep ability for thoughtfulness and compassion will lead her to do great things in the future regardless of the path she chooses.

Congratulations, Megan!
