Stauffer Center for Science, Mathematics and Environmental Studies

The Stauffer Center houses a robust collection of expert scholars and educators spanning all STEM disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, and Physics. The Stauffer Center has been designed to reflect the interdisciplinary, collaborative mode of teaching at a liberal arts and sciences university. Science students at Redlands take courses in all fields and many explore cross disciplinary programs such as Health, Medicine & Society, Human-Animal Studies, Kinesiology, Spatial Studies, or the Johnston Center.

The Stauffer Center embodies a teacher-scholar model, and all faculty can be found in the classroom as well as engaging in scholarship. The annual Undergraduate Summer Research Program showcases this approach, with students working hand-in-hand with faculty to conduct research in 10-week paid positions every summer.

To prepare our students for their journey after graduation, the Stauffer Center promotes a personalized advising approach. Our Pre-Health program pairs faculty advisors with students as soon as they arrive on campus. The Science Center has forged relationships with many partner institutions, creating preferred admissions agreements and accelerated pathways for Redlands students, paving the way for our graduates to continue their education and create change in their communities.
