The procession to the Baccalaureate service for graduation candidates of the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business & Society, and School of Education begins outside the Hall of Letters and proceeds across Colton Avenue and the Quad, into the Memorial Chapel. Caps and gowns are required for participation. Only School of Education master’s and doctoral candidates wear hoods at this event.

Baccalaureate
11 a. m. - 12 p.m., Memorial Chapel
The procession begins promptly at 10:45 a. m., and the service lasts approximately one hour. Baccalaureate is an ecumenical worship ceremony in celebration of, and thanksgiving for, lives dedicated to learning and wisdom. Family and friends should go directly to the Memorial Chapel. Seating is limited, so guests are advised to arrive early.

The Students of Color Recognition Ceremony provides the opportunity for students of color to celebrate in a more intimate setting. Culturally specific stoles are presented to candidates, typically by a member of their immediate family or their faculty.

Processional Line up for Commencement Ceremony
9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., East Lawn (Quad)
Please be prompt! All candidates will receive an email at their Redlands email to print their own Bulldog Express Pass (name card), which will save time at the processional line up. The card shows name, degree, and the numerical order in which to line up for procession. Candidates will hand the card to a reader who will announce their name as they start across the stage.

Please note that candidates do not march in the order listed in the program. Candidates will march by academic program. The Commencement program will be available for guests as they arrive at the Alumni Greek Theatre and on candidates’ chairs in the Alumni Greek Theatre.

Commencement Ceremony
10 a.m. - noon, Alumni Greek Theatre
Tickets are not required. The procession begins promptly at 9:45 a.m., and the ceremony lasts approximately two hours. The Alumni Greek Theatre is an open-air amphitheater. This historic outdoor venue has very limited handicapped accessibility and no shade. It may pose challenges to guests who have difficulty walking or navigating uneven steps. Limited ADA-accessible seating is available at the back of the Theatre for disabled guests and one companion. Guests with special needs should plan to arrive early to ensure adequate seating as space is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note, the Alumni Greek Theatre will open for seating beginning at 8 a.m. Due to capacity issues, there will be no reserved seating. Candidates are asked to limit the attendance of family and friends in the Theatre to six people and to direct others to the live streaming locations; under the tent on the Gallery Lawn and in designated classrooms in the Hall of Letters. No strollers are allowed in the Alumni Greek Theatre.

Hooding of master’s candidates takes place during the Commencement Ceremony. Candidates carry the hood over their left arm as they process in and walk to the stage. Once on stage, a faculty member will take the hood and place it over the head and around the shoulders as an honorary symbol of completion of the master’s degree.
