After seven years as a U of R trustee, Jamison (Jim) J. Ashby ’82 felt called to lead the University during this time of extraordinary transition.

“The ‘why’ of what we do is apparent every single day—it is our students," says U of R President Krista Newkirk.

Three Bulldogs in the museum world— Vanessa Wilkie ’00, Daniel Lewis ’81, and Rick West ’65—talk about how their Redlands education helps them ask questions and tell stories.

U of R Director of Choral Studies Nicholle Andrews and Director of Music Admissions and Music Technology Brad Andrews worked together to transpose what would have been in-person performances onto the virtual stage.

“This book gives readers a path for listening to diverse voices and learning from them,” says Professor James Spee, who conceived and co-edited a new book that investigates sustainability from the indigenous perspective of indigenous people.

Rev. Cynthia Cochran-Carney ’88 (M.Div.) is pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, California. The congregation is among four churches closely related to the early history of the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Today, all four congregations are led by female pastors and deeply rooted in their communities.

A full day of programming recognized the launch of the School of Business & Society, which enhances the University’s business programs to empower students to positively impact their community and the world.

"GeoWeek is a celebration of possibilities and optimism that we can join together and use spatial tools to address problems that trouble us all," says Director of the Center for Spatial Studies Steve Moore.

“Our participation in this program further solidifies our commitment to preparing our students for global service work,” says Steve Wuhs, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and senior international officer.

“It really put me into a space with people who wanted to serve the community, and I learned there are many ways to do that,” says Jackson Keene ’22.

A look back on San Francisco Theological Seminary's 150-year history.

The Center’s mission is to support students, faculty, and staff members in successfully navigating conflict. 

In August, Scott Armacost ’82 and daughter Samantha Armacost ’16 (Johnston) began a canoe trip down the length of the Mississippi River. Each night, no matter where they are, the duo stops to remember the lives lost due to COVID-19 with a trumpet performance of “Taps.”

For Carla Flamenco ’22, a normal day at work consists of meeting with resident advisors, supporting students, and being a part of the Student COVID-19 Case Team.

Frequent collaborators Jamison Stevens ’22 and Timothy Cunningham ’22 composed “12 and Change” in honor of President Krista Newkirk’s arrival on campus. After tapping a faculty member to write lyrics, the song was performed during the School of Music’s first in-person choral concert since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U of R School of Education’s Student Success Partnership has begun to transition back to offering face-to-face workshops for the foster youth served by the project.

A week of remembrance and reflection encourages members of the University of Redlands community to encounter and process the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
