What is a liberal studies degree?

The Liberal Studies program at the University of Redlands is designed to prepare you for a career in education with a focus on diverse classroom settings. This state-recognized program provides a comprehensive foundation in the subject areas required for a multiple-subject teaching credential. By completing the program, you demonstrate your expertise and fulfill the requirements to pursue teaching credentials without needing to take the CSET exams.

Majoring in liberal studies at Redlands will allow you to fulfill the demanding need for educators, by providing you with a strong foundation to build your teaching career through core classes, faculty support, and community connections. As you work towards completing the program, you will be encouraged to select a subject area that could provide flexibility for you to also earn a single subject area credential to teach at the high school level, in addition to the multiple subject teaching credential, or to open a pathway into a second profession or graduate study. If you are looking to develop a deeper understanding of at least one subject area, you are required to take a second major.
