The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies for Education degree is designed to prepare you for a career in education with a focus on diverse classroom settings. This state-recognized program provides a comprehensive foundation in the subject areas required for a multiple subject teaching credential. By completing the program, you demonstrate your expertise and fulfill the subject matter requirements to pursue a multiple subject teaching credential without needing to take the CSET exams.
At Redlands, you can prepare for a meaningful teaching career while shaping your education around your goals. If you are passionate about teaching in Pre-K-8 or alternative education settings, the liberal studies for education major provides you with the foundation to support young learners in today's diverse and evolving classrooms. With a focus on creativity, adaptability, and a deep understanding of educational practices, you'll build skills that prepare you to embark on a fulfilling teaching career.
Liberal studies for education majors also complete a second major, giving you the flexibility to explore another academic area and shape your path after Redlands. This can support your path toward earning a single subject credential to teach at the high school level, pursuing graduate study, or preparing for a second profession. As a liberal studies undergraduate student at Redlands, you can also complete a teaching credential or begin coursework toward the Master of Arts in Education: Learning and Teaching while earning your bachelor's degree.
All Liberal Studies core courses must be at least 3 credits and must be completed with a grade of 2.0 or higher. Overall GPA of 2.0 is required. All course substitutions or equivalences for major courses must be approved by the Liberal Studies program director. The Liberal Studies for Education minor is designed for students who want to be teachers in middle school or high school and are preparing to earn a single subject credential in the School of Education. The minor will introduce you to the foundations of a teaching career. Required courses in the minor will help you understand child development, the social and political forces shaping schools, effective teaching practices, and educational research. The minor requirements also include all the prerequisites to apply to the School of Education for a teaching credential. The minor is not required for the pathway to the School of Education.

You will learn to identify the connections between California PreK-8 Content Standards and subject matter knowledge in Liberal Studies major courses, Liberal Arts Inquiry courses, and courses of your second major discipline.
