Dr. Mcintyre’s research in the Bearpaw Preserve focuses on the distributions of wildlife species within the preserve and what habitat factors may be influencing these patterns. The El Dorado fire in September of 2020 had a profound effect on these distributions due to dramatic changes in vegetation.
Students in her Biodiversity and Ecology classes have been involved in this research via setting up camera traps in the preserve, measuring habitat variables, processing videos from the cameras, and mapping the presence of various species pre and post-fire using GIS. These experiential learning practices are foundational in both of these field-based laboratory courses.
