This schedule represents a summary of your New Student Orientation (NSO) experience.

Thursday, August 24th

*All events are mandatory on August 24th

Move-in by Appointment
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.


Residence Life and Housing will work with new students to make an appointment for move-in. Appointments will be made for students who have completed the New Student Checklist before their arrival.


Lunch on your own


Enjoy lunch on your own in downtown Redlands or on campus at The Table in Irvine Commons (11am – 1:30pm) For some favorite local eateries, view the “Local Dining” section on the Redlands App.


New Student Orientation Welcome


Join us for the kick-off of Orientation where new students will meet with their Orientation Leader, receive University of Redlands swag items, and review the schedule for all Orientation events.


Commuter Life 101

Calling all commuter students! Join us to learn about resources, on-campus commuter spaces, and meet other commuter students.

Residential Hall Welcome

If you are living on campus, gather with your new neighbors in the lobby of your residence hall and meet the Residence Life and Housing staff.


Foundations of Community



Engage in a discussion about what it means to be a part of the University of Redlands community and think critically about the values you brought here. Topics include community standards and how they are upheld, alcohol and drug use, and how we resolve conflicts within our community.



New Student Athlete Orientation


Join fellow Bulldog athletes to learn about important resources on campus for new student athletes. *Mandatory for student athletes only  


Johnston Welcome
3:30p.m. - 5:30pm 


Johnston students will meet with their Orientation Leader and participate in various welcome activities. *Mandatory for those enrolled in the Johnston program only

Campus Resource Fair


Come meet staff from various on-campus departments and learn about all the resources and opportunities available at the University of Redlands!



Welcome Dinner
5:30 p.m. - 6:45 p.m



Our campus food service provider, Harvest Table Culinary Group, extends a warm welcome to all new Bulldogs and their families with dinner on them! Come meet other Bulldog families, President Newkirk, and other campus leaders at this casual dinner. All new students, families, and guests are invited.  


President’s Welcome Convocation Procession


All students will meet in their orientation groups on the North side of the Quad to line up for the procession into the Chapel.

Everyone is invited to President Newkirk’s inaugural new student event; the official induction of the incoming class. Students will be seated first – families are invited to cheer for the students as they enter the Chapel


Family Farewell

Your journey as a Bulldog continues, but it is time for your parents and guests to say farewell for now. Get ready for some fun programs and activities as New Student Orientation continues.  

Class Photo and Och Tamale Chant


Join your fellow Bulldogs on the Admin steps to commemorate your first day as a Bulldog with a class photo and learn the tradition of the Och Tamale chant.



9:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.


Playfair is a high-spirited, high-energy event that allows new students to engage and laugh with one another as a large group, as well as in many quick-changing breakout groups.

Before or after registering for your classes, come upstairs to the library to meet the resourceful and friendly librarians, get a tour, find a new study spot AND be entered into an opportunity drawing!


Fall Advising and Registration



Registration times are determined by the last digit of your student ID number. Please come to your registration session five minutes early. Bring your Redlands ID and password. Your FYS Peer Advisor will be available to support you in Jones Computer Center.


Bulldogs Consent-Equity & Title IX


Students will participate in an engaging conversation about our collective responsibilities under Title IX, how we define and gain consent, and how we engage and support healthy relationships in our community.

Family Dinner

Foam Party


Cool down with your fellow Bulldogs and enjoy music, a foam pit, and other activities!

We are bringing the city of Redlands to your doorsteps. What better way to start off your day than to visit a Farmers Market. We present the iconic Redlands Market to campus and come meet local vendors.


University Bookstore Open House


Come have some fun at the University Bookstore where there will be store discounts, freebies, games, and more!

Continue building your community by connecting with the faculty, staff, and students from various departments on campus.

Pool Palooza


Cool down orientation week by hanging out at the pool and playing water games before the start of the fall semester begins.


While masking is not currently mandated on our campuses, we encourage you to mask:

  • When returning from travel (for 5 days post-return);
  • After a known exposure to a positive case (even if you test negative);
  • After recovering from COVID and returning to a campus (up to 14 days from onset of symptoms)
  • When meeting with others in small spaces;
  • When in crowded public areas on our campuses;
  • When asked to mask by others who are concerned about their safety or that of others; and
  • Any situation not mentioned here that increases the risk of transmission.
