Joseph Modica appointed next School of Music director

Kendrick Brown, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, sent this memo to the University of Redlands community on December 17 announcing a leadership appointment at the School of Music.

I am pleased to announce the next Director of the School of Music will be Joseph Modica—a person who I am confident will lead the School of Music into an even brighter future than it currently enjoys. He will officially begin the position on July 1, 2020.

Many of you know Joe from his work both as a faculty member and his current position as Interim College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean and Director of the School of Music. He has been teaching at the University of Redlands since 2011 and was honored with the University’s Outstanding Service Award in 2017.

Joe is also artistic director of the Inland Master Chorale, director of music for the First Presbyterian Church of Redlands, and frequent participant in guest conducting, presentation, and workshop events across Southern California and beyond.

His background includes positions at the University of South Carolina, Chapman University, Biola University, Mater Dei High School, and Redlands East Valley High School. He is a graduate of Chapman University (Bachelor of Music, conducting); California State University, Long Beach (Master of Music, choral conducting); and University of Southern California (Doctor of Musical Arts, choral music).

I would like to thank the members of the search committee for their time, energy, consideration, and commitment to a successful search, as well as for their deep investment in the success of the School of Music, which provides incredible bounty to the College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Redlands, and surrounding communities.

Please join me in congratulating Joe!
