Face covering requirements for employees

June 15, 2021

Subject:  Face covering requirements for employees

I am writing to clarify that all University employees working onsite should continue to wear face coverings indoors as the default around others of unknown vaccination status, per California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA).

As part of the state’s reopening today, the face covering requirement has lifted for vaccinated individuals in many settings; however, Cal/OSHA still mandates face coverings for employees at this time. We expect Cal/OSHA’s guidelines to change following a meeting scheduled for Thurs., June 17 and will keep the community informed about these developments. We will update our Interim COVID Policy accordingly.

On a related note, we are finalizing the employee vaccination policy and will release it by Friday.

Thank you for your continued patience as we seek to follow the guidelines and requirements of multiple government entities.
