Jessie Hewitt teaches European and World history, with a special focus on gender, disability, medicine, and culture. Jessie’s articles on the history of French psychiatry have appeared in French Historical Studies (“Women Working ‘Amidst the Mad’: Domesticity as Psychiatric Treatment in Nineteenth-Century France,” 2015) and Contemporary French Civilization (“Married to the ‘living dead’: Madness as a cause for divorce in late nineteenth-century France,” 2015). She’s currently working on a book called Institutionalizing Gender: Men, Women, and the Asylum in France
