ARTIST STATEMENT

Being raised on the east coast and attending college on the west coast I feel that my art has been inspired by many different places and experiences. I use color and typography to depict a story through design, which is especially evident in my book designs. I strive to tell a story with all of my work and communicate effectively to the viewer by creating a visually appealing design. This semester I challenged myself to further my portfolio by experimenting with text layout in new and creative ways in my newspaper layout series, as well as refining my book cover design skills with my work on The Giver series by Lois Lowry, and with the cover and interior of Monday or Tuesday by Virgina Woolf. Each book cover is unique and I always push myself to go deeper and stay away from a literal cover, instead looking for a deeper meaning or hidden message within the text that can be utilized for an engaging cover. Throughout the semester I developed my experience working in InDesign, as well as my attention to detail, making sure every word was in its place.
