Faculty Grants

University of Redlands faculty, administration, and academic staff can find support for their research and teaching efforts through two grant programs sponsored by the Banta Center for Ethical and Purposeful Leadership.

Banta Ethics Research Grant

Faculty engaged in scholarly work that addresses the role of ethical values in social life can submit proposals to take advantage of special funding opportunities provided by the Banta Ethics Research Grants. Proposals can include, but are not limited to, the study of:

  • Religion
  • Business
  • Medicine
  • Science
  • Economics
  • Culture
  • Public policy
  • Law
  • Government

These proposals may take up theoretical or applied themes and can incorporate a wide range of different methodologies, as long as they clearly identify the ethical importance and significance of the research. 

Submitting a Proposal

Electronically submit a brief proposal for funding that includes your name, department, a summary of proposed research, methods, outcomes, and budget to Banta_Center@redlands.edu. Please enter “Research Grant” in the subject line. Proposals are considered on an ongoing basis.

Banta Ethics Across the Curriculum Grant

Banta Ethics Across the Curriculum Grants are designed to support faculty, administration, and academic support staff who seek to integrate ethics-related themes into their classes, courses of study, or co-curricular programs.

Funds can be used to support:

  • Guest lectures
  • Field trips
  • Travel expenses
  • Faculty workshops
  • Student assistantships
  • Books
  • Multimedia
  • Software
  • Other related expenses

Theoretical or applied approaches are welcomed Curricular themes eligible for funding include, but are not limited to:

  • Philosophical or religious approaches to ethical inquiry
  • Globalization
  • Citizenship
  • Community Service
  • Social problems in technology and science
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Social justice
  • Cultural studies
  • Academic integrity

Submitting a Proposal

Electronically submit a proposal that includes your name, department, proposal title, budget, and a summary of your proposed class, project, program, or event along with a description of its ethical significance to Banta_Center@redlands.edu. Please enter “EAC Grant” in the subject line. Proposals are considered on an ongoing basis.
