University of Redlands
This StoryMap encompasses research from the 2021 May Term focusing on The Mamoní Valley Preserve, a non-profit conservancy in Central Panama that includes 5,000-hectares of rainforest in one of the remaining 25 Biodiversity Hotspots, the Tumbes-Chocó-Magdalena eco-region. Their goal is to restore this highly degraded yet biologically significant region while reversing the impacts of climate change and human activities threatening severe biodiversity loss.
Beginning May of 2017, members of the Environmental and Spatial Studies departments at the University of Redlands have taken students here annually. Faculty involved include Environmental Studies Professor Daniel Klooster, GIS Professor Nader Afzalan, and Center for Spatial Studies Staff Steven Moore, David Smith, and Nathan Strout.
