November Updates from Residence Life and Housing

Hello, 

Residence Life and Housing wishes you the best as we approach the end of the semester. We are reaching out to provide vital information you need to know regarding Thanksgiving Break, fall closing, Winter Break Housing, meal plans, work orders, May Term Housing, and important dates.

Thanksgiving Break: 

All housing remains open during Thanksgiving Break, November 22-24th. The last meal available on campus will be dinner at The Table on November 21st. Dining services will resume with brunch on November 26th.

Fall Semester Closing

All communities, including apartments and organizational houses, close for Winter Break on Friday, December 8th at 2 PM and reopen for the Spring Semester on Sunday, January 7th at 10am.

On the week of November 27th, your RA will post a blue checklist flyer on your door listing the items to complete prior to leaving campus for Winter Break.

  • You are expected to review the information and complete all items outlined.
  • The last person to leave your room will write their name on the bottom line to signal all residents have left and that a staff member may enter to complete a safety check of the room to close the building for break. 
  • The last meal available on campus will be brunch on Friday, December 8th.
  • For students leaving housing because they are studying abroad in the spring, taking a leave of absence, or withdrawing, you will need to move out of housing by Friday, December 8th at 2 PM. You must arrange a check-out time with a staff member 48 hours in advance.

Late Departure: 

To request a one-night extension for moving-out or departing campus for Winter Break, please complete the Late Departure Request on the MyRedlands Housing Portal under Applications and Forms by Monday, November 27th. For a cost of $100, charged to your student account, you will be permitted to remain until Saturday, December 9th at 2 PM. There will be no day of late departures considered or approved.

Winter Break Housing Petition: 

If you need a place to stay for Winter Break, Friday, December 9th through Saturday, January 7th, such as athletes in season, international/exchange students with housing challenges, or for those who are housing insecure, please submit a petition for housing using the Winter Break Housing Petition on the MyRedlands Housing Portal under Applications and Forms. 

  • You must petition by Monday, November 27th to be considered for housing during any part of the break.
  • Please be aware that all food services are suspended during the entirety of Winter Break
  • The cost for Winter Break Housing is $110 per week, charged to your student account. 

Meal Plan Changes:

Starting November 18th, you can review and/or change your spring meal plan on your MyRedlands Housing Portal under Meal Plans. If you would like to make a change, you may do so by Friday, January 12th. Visit the Harvest Table website for more information about meal plans and rates.

  • Click on Meal Plans, click on Dining Plans, and then select Spring 2024 from the menu located to the right of the Filter  box.
  • The meal plan currently assigned to you will be listed. Click on a different meal plan option under Change my Meal Plan and click Purchase Meal Plan to change your plan.
  • A record of your meal plan selection history will be listed, with the one at the top being the plan currently assigned and being charged to your student account.

Work Order Contacts:

For facilities concerns, please submit a work order request through the Facilities Work Order Request portal on your MyRedlands page.

For IT concerns, please submit a work order request through the IT Service Request portal on your MyRedlands page.

For laundry concern, submit a work order at: https://www.wash.com/service-request/

Looking Forward:

Every year the University closes some residential communities for May Term. Students staying for an on campus May Term may be relocated to a different community. Should your hall close for May Term, Residence Life and Hosing will notify you of your May Term Housing assignment in April.
