A Message from President Newkirk

Dear University Community,

As educators, teachers of educators, and parents, our hearts ache for the community of Uvalde, Texas. The shooting of students, a teacher, and school employee at Robb Elementary School as they gathered together to learn hurts us deeply. We are sad, angry, and mortified at the frequency of these events and the terrible impact they have on our children and community. We send our deepest condolences to all affected by these tragic occurrences.

If you find that you are in need of support at this time, counseling services are available to students through Timely Care, and employees through U of R’s Employee Assistance and Advocacy Program.

For current K-12 educators and future educators in our U of R community in search of resources to support in your classrooms, please feel free to reach out to the co-directors of the Center for Educational Justice Dr. Mikela Bjork and Dr. Brian Charest.

Sincerely,
