Dear University Community,
As you know, Jim Good has been serving as interim Head Football Coach this year. Jim joined the University of Redlands in 2012 serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. Since Coach Good took over the program in July 2021, Bulldog football has thrived and has had many impressive on-field achievements. The team won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship for the program’s third title in five years, qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships for the 10th time, and earned 12 All-SCIAC individual awards, including the 2021 SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Athletic excellence and achievements are always our goals, but they are just one part of a successful athletic program. Our primary focus is and always will be the academic and personal development of our student-athletes. With that in mind, we conducted a thorough evaluation, including: an assessment by student-athletes of their experience; a review of student-athlete recruitment, academic performance, and retention data; and, an assessment of the culture of the program, including a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In every aspect of this evaluation, Jim Good and his coaching staff received glowing assessments.
Throughout the challenges of the pandemic and a coaching transition, Coach Good’s diverse and talented staff excelled under his leadership which is guided by his passion for the game, his commitment to developing personal character, his determination to excel, and the care he provides in support of the student-athletes and their experience.
We want to thank Coach Good and his staff for their exemplary performance this year and we are pleased to announce that interim Head Bulldog Football Coach Jim Good has accepted our offer to serve as Head Coach of Bulldog Football, effective immediately. In addition, Joey Mariani will maintain his position as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at the University of Redlands.
Please join us in acknowledging Coach Good, Coach Mariani, and our entire Bulldog football coaching staff for a tremendous season as well as the exciting future that lies ahead under Coach Good’s leadership.
