About Heather Flood

Heather is a higher education leader, innovative educator, and creative practitioner with more than two decades of experience advancing academic excellence, institutional growth, and student success. She serves as Dean of the College of Architecture, Design, and Media and Senior Officer at the University of Redlands Los Angeles, where she is leading academic transformation through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to fostering learning environments that empower faculty, staff, and students to thrive. 

She was named the 2025 Educator of the Year by the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles (AIA|LA), one of the nation's largest and most influential AIA chapters, and currently serves on the Board of Directors. During her leadership at Woodbury University, new student enrollment in the architecture program doubled and, in partnership with faculty, alumni, and university stakeholders, she established the inaugural School of Architecture Alumni Council and School of Design and Media Arts Alumni Council.  

Before entering academic leadership, Flood taught for more than a decade at SCI-Arc, where she served as Chair of the Faculty Council and founded the institution’s Transfer Program. Her scholarship and creative work have been featured in leading publications, including the AD Magazine, Domus, Architect’s Newspaper, Archinect, and Architecural Record. Heather has a Master of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture, where she graduated with honors and received the Henry Adams Medal awarded to the top-ranking graduate student. Heather has a Bachelor of Art degree from Michigan State University.

The Senior Officer of the University of Redlands, Los Angeles represents the University to external constituencies, including industry partners; partners with University Advancement to support fundraising initiatives, donor cultivation, and stewardship; advances strong integration between the Los Angeles campus and the broader University of Redlands communities; contributes to strengthening the financial performance and sustainability of the Los Angeles campus; and raises critical issues, opportunities, and risks to the President and senior leadership team.
