About Mark
Mark P. Kumler teaches courses on cartography, GIS fundamentals, map projections and coordinate systems.
Before joining the M.S. GIS faculty in 2004, he held faculty appointments at the University of Colorado, California State University, San Bernardino, and the University of Auckland (sabbatical appointment).

Professional Background
Research
His research interests include map projections, spatial coordinate systems, digital terrain representations, and GIS applications. He has received more than $3 million in external grants and contracts, including two from the National Science Foundation. His publications have appeared in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems, Cartographica, and The California Geographer.
Kumler has designed and directed the development of three GIS labs, and has supervised one Ph.D. student and more than 90 M.S. students.
