Join the University of Redlands Center for Educational Justice (CEJ) for a powerful movie night featuring The Hate U Give, a thought-provoking film that explores racial injustice, identity, systemic inequities, and the courage to use one's voice to advocate for change.
The film follows Starr Carter, a young Black student navigating two different worlds—her predominantly Black neighborhood and her predominantly White private school. After witnessing the fatal police shooting of her childhood friend, Starr must confront difficult questions about justice, community, identity, and the power of speaking out.
Through this film screening, CEJ invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in meaningful reflection on racial inequity and the importance of advocacy, empathy, and social responsibility. Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a facilitated discussion connecting the film's themes to educational justice and the role we all play in creating more equitable communities.
And what's a movie night without snacks? Enjoy complimentary movie theater-style snacks and refreshing drinks provided by CEJ throughout the screening!
Come for the movie, stay for the conversation, and leave inspired to be a voice for change!
