Esri, the global leader in geographic information systems (GIS), and the University of Redlands have partnered for their seventh annual tree giveaway to help strengthen the region’s urban forest and promote environmental stewardship.
The University of Redlands Climate Action Corps Fellows are excited to host the Mega May Community Tree Giveaway, open to all Inland Empire residents on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Up to two free trees (4-inch pots) per household will be available for drive-through pickup in front of the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel.
Trees will be distributed as small saplings in starter pots. No need to arrive right at 9:00 AM—trees will be replenished hourly throughout the event. A variety of responsible sourced native and/or drought tolerant tree saplings will be available. Planting and care instructions will be provided with each tree.
A limited number of 5- and 15-gallon trees will be available for residents who can provide proof of living in areas with a CalEnviroScreen score of 60 or higher.
Tree Selection Process:
Each year, TreeStock prioritizes sourcing trees in the following order:
- California native species appropriate for the region, recommended by University of Redlands Environmental Sciences faculty
- “Trees for Tomorrow – Climate-Ready Trees Inland Empire” (UCANR Master Gardeners)
- Additional UCANR-recommended trees for Sunset Zones 18 and 19
- Chino Basin Water District Waterwise Garden Planner
Then these are not available, trees are selected based on availability at local nurseries, low water needs, pollinator support, and non-invasive growth habits.
Sourcing trees has become increasingly challenging for community programs. If you have leads on priority tree sources, please contact URtreestock@redlands.edu.
