School of Business offers new master’s degree in business analytics

To prepare students to excel in the growing fields of data science and business analytics—careers where demand exceeds the supply of qualified candidates—the University of Redlands School of Business will offer a new Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program starting this fall at the Redlands, Riverside, and Rancho Cucamonga campuses.

“The modern business world needs professionals with the skills to gather, analyze, and make data-driven decisions that drive corporate strategy and execution,” said Thomas Horan, who is the H. Jess and Donna Colton Senecal Dean of the School of Business at University of Redlands. “Our program will prepare students to excel in this growing field in many industries and business disciplines.”

The nine-course program is designed for working professionals who want to advance their careers by completing an 18-month graduate school program with classes in the evenings or weekends.

With a unique curriculum curated from information technology, geographic information systems, management information systems, and business, graduates of the MSBA program will be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of business intelligence and data analysis. Graduates will take a holistic view of how to address business questions and needs through data, how to make ethical and legal decisions with data insights, how to easily and visually communicate data outcomes to non-technical team members, how to develop a big data strategy within an organization, and how to develop performance measurement tools and assess return on investment. Graduates will be able to set up predictive models, then interpret, store, and manage that data to aid organizational decision-making, identify new revenue streams, and achieve competitive advantage.

School of Business students have access to many resources to help them succeed, from academic advisors and workshops to career counseling and job placement support, as well as a popular mentor program.

“Our curriculum will ensure we are doing our part to create a more skilled workforce in this critical business discipline,” Horan noted. “And since more than 25 percent of School of Business enrollments are Bulldog alumni, we hope to fill our first cohort with Redlands graduates who already know our value and can spread the word.”

The tuition rate for University of Redlands alumni for the entire program is $25,000.

Applications for the inaugural fall term, starting the week of Aug. 31, are due by Aug. 3. The online application process is easy, and GMAT/GRE test scores and letters of recommendation are optional. Additionally, the program does not require applicants to have majored in a science, technology, engineering or math subject for their undergraduate degree, and no prerequisite courses are required, saving applicants time and money.
