Graduate students financial aid options
Financial aid awards can be need-based and non-need based.
When you receive an offer letter from Student Financial Services it can include one or many of the types of financial aid listed below. We encourage all students to review financial aid offers carefully to understand all terms and requirements. Whatever amount is not covered by financial aid is the balance due. There are a variety of payment options for students to pay their balance.
Should you have any questions about financial aid or payment options, please contact Student Financial Services.
Scholarships
Scholarships are monies that are not paid back, but usually have a requirement (i.e. a GPA that must be met and/or maintained). An assistantship allows a student to work within their department in research or other work to earn this financial aid benefit. View the list of programs to determine which one you are interested in and learn more about the available opportunities.

Grants
Grants are awarded by federal, state, Redlands, and other organizations. Most grants do not have to be paid back, however it is important to understand the conditions of an award. Some grants do require repayment if a student withdraws before the end of their semester, or does not complete activities connected to the grant.
Loans
Loans are borrowed money that must be paid back. Loans have a time frame in which they need to be paid back, and a loan accrues interest. Loans can be provided by the federal government, known as federal student loans, or can be offered by banks or private lenders. When taking out a loan is it important to understand the interest rates, repayment time period, and benefits.
