A Native American studies minor introduces you to the diverse cultures, histories, and experiences of Native American tribal nations. You'll examine the lasting impact of settler colonialism on Native American communities and the resilience of tribes fighting for their sovereign rights and building cultural renewal. Grounded in real-world application and community engagement, this minor helps you learn how to work respectfully and effectively with Native communities while developing cultural understanding, ethical research practices, and community-centered approaches that are valuable across professions.
At Redlands, the Native American studies minor offers a distinctive place-based and community-engaged approach shaped by our location in Southern California. Redlands is near many federally recognized tribal nations and a large, diverse intertribal community. This proximity allows you to build relationships, engage with Native communities, and apply what you learn in ways that extend beyond the classroom.
This minor can complement a wide range of majors and career goals. Whether you are studying business, environmental science, education, public policy, or the humanities, a Native American studies minor can provide a critical perspective that enhances your primary field of study and strengthens the way you approach your future work. You will graduate with a deeper understanding of Native issues and a more socially informed approach to your future career
