Health and Medicine in Southern Africa
Eswatini & South Africa program course, faculty-led by Professor James Krueger.
Course description
This course explores health and medicine in Southern Africa with a special emphasis on Eswatini and the impacts of the ongoing HIV epidemic. It is a service course where the bulk of our time will be spend engaging in projects arranged in conjunction with the Ministry of Health in Eswatini. Past projects have included building community gardens, renovating portions of the government hospital in Mbabane, assisting with malaria control surveys, and working with Hospice at Home in and around Eswatini. In addition, we will spend roughly a week visiting sites in nearby Johannesburg, South Africa. Throughout the course, activities may include a safari; visit to the Cultural Village in Eswatini; tour of the Cradle of Humankind; and visits to the Apartheid Museum, Mandela House, and Hector Pieterson Museum.

$3000
Included in the course fee:
- Course fee will cover all meals, ground transportation, project supplies, lodging, and activity costs during the trip.
Not included in the course fee:
- The major cost not covered by the course fee is airfare. The only other expenses not covered will be souvenirs and any personal international cell phone charges. Estimated at $2000.
