Internships at Redlands

A key component of the distinctive Core Four experiential learning framework, our curricular internship program in the College of Arts and Sciences connects students with meaningful work experiences that support their learning and professional goals, and partners organizations with capable and prepared interns.

For students

You can earn academic credit and document your internship experiences on your transcript, all while working with your faculty and the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) to reflect on and incorporate your experience into your degree program. Depending on your goals and the type of experience you're seeking, there are three internship options available.

Three internship options:

Credit bearing internships
(INTRN-300)

Having identified an internship site, this course will integrate your internship with your academic work through reflective writing, research, or a project. This is designed in consultation with a faculty sponsor in your major or a related field. Earn 1-3 credits depending on time committed.

Documented internships
(INTRN-200)

Having identified an internship site, your internship appears on your transcript without academic credit. This is the right option when you want recognition for an internship you’ve completed, but don’t need it tied to coursework.

Departmental internships
(Course number varies)

Some departments offer structured internship courses tied to specific majors. Please ask your major advisor whether one is available in your field.

For internship partners

Redlands students bring strong writing, communication, and analytical skills to internships across Southern California. Our faculty and the Office of Career and Professional Development regularly partner with organizations to design internship experiences that are tailored to both the host and the student.

What we offer partners:

A streamlined placement process

Our staff handles site documentation, risk and liability waivers, and supervisor agreements.

An ongoing partnership

Our staff and faculty can check in across the internship and serve as a clear point of contact for any questions throughout the placement.

Capable and prepared interns

Redlands students bring substantive academic preparation and personal maturity to internships. They have strong communication and critical thinking skills in addition to disciplinary training that comes from a liberal arts education.

Help build a program from scratch

If your organization is looking to host interns but doesn’t yet have a structured program, our faculty and staff experts can help you design one. We can assist in defining roles, structuring learning goals, and building a framework that allows an intern to make real contributions to your organization.
