David Enzminger '85 Named Chair of the Board of Trustees

Dear University Community,

I'm pleased to share that David Enzminger ’85 will assume the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees on July 1, 2026, succeeding Jamison “Jim” Ashby ’82, who has led the board for the past five years.

As we look to the future, Chair-Elect Enzminger brings the kind of leadership that will help our University continue to evolve and thrive. He understands who we are at our core and is committed to expanding opportunities for our students and strengthening our impact. I'd like to thank outgoing Board Chair Jim Ashby for his dedicated leadership and service, which have been instrumental in positioning the University for this next chapter.

This transition comes at a moment of meaningful momentum for our University. We continue to serve our students while expanding our academic reach. Recent developments, including the Marin campus and the Presidio Center for Sustainable Solutions, alongside our anticipated merger with Woodbury University, reflect our commitment to growth that is both mission-aligned and student-centered.

“Redlands has made remarkable progress in expanding its footprint across California and developing programs that are both market-responsive and grounded in the liberal arts,” said Ashby. “I am proud to have helped guide these efforts and look forward to continuing to support Chair-Elect Enzminger and President Newkirk as they build on this momentum.”

Enzminger graduated cum laude in 1985, majoring in political science and German, and earned his J.D. from Arizona State University. He is a Partner at Winston & Strawn LLP in Los Angeles with extensive experience in technology litigation, including patent, trade secret, trademark, and antitrust matters.

Actively engaged with Redlands throughout his career, Enzminger served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Young Alumni Committee and received the Ray Whitmus Young Alumni Award in 1995. He was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2009.

“I am deeply honored to serve the institution that has shaped my life in so many ways,” Enzminger said. “I look forward to collaborating with my fellow trustees, the President and her Cabinet, and faculty and staff to advance the University’s mission and foster student success.”

With gratitude,

Krista L. Newkirk
