Dear University Community,

Welcome to fall! At least, that’s what the calendar says. Outside, it still feels a lot like summer, but I’m choosing to believe cooler weather is on its way. I’m not sure how September went by so quickly, but here we are in October, and it’s shaping up to be just as busy.

First, thank you to everyone who joined us for our student and faculty/staff town halls at our Los Angeles campus. It was good to see so many of you in person, put faces to names, and answer your questions.

I also enjoyed hosting our Bulldog student-athletes, coaches, Redlands Student Government, and student leaders from a variety of clubs and organizations at Miraflores. This has become one of my favorite fall traditions, and I always enjoy the chance to catch up with students and see what’s happening across campus.

Our University Station was in the spotlight this week, serving as the backdrop for a town hall with California Assemblymember Lori Wilson, chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, who shared updates on her priorities and goals. Events like this bring visibility to both the University and the City of Redlands, highlighting our place in the region and the connections that link our campuses throughout California. Note: Did you know that students can ride the Arrow Rail Line for free? For information, contact Student Campus Life at 909-748-8299 or campus_life@redlands.edu.

Last weekend, we also celebrated some of Redlands’ finest. We began by unveiling a plaque honoring Professor Emeritus Jack Osborn, the founding faculty member of the University’s Global Business program. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate this special member of the Bulldog family, and a special thank you to David Armstrong ’08 for making the plaque possible.

We also marked 35 years of Community Service Learning (CSL), celebrating a program that has connected our students to service for decades. A highlight of the event was honoring Tony Mueller, whose leadership helped shape CSL into what it is today. If you’d like to learn more about the program, explore its projects, or see its work mapped through GIS technology, click here.

Many of you will be on fall break on Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13. I hope you have a chance to get some rest and recharge for the weeks ahead.

Homecoming and Family Weekend is approaching quickly. I hope you’ll join us to reconnect with fellow Bulldogs, welcome families, and enjoy a weekend of Redlands traditions. Click here to preview the weekend activities and register.

Have a great weekend.
