The passing of University of Redlands Lifetime Trustee Terry Kupfer ’57

Jan 23, 2025

Dear University Community:

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Terry Kupfer ’57, a beloved member of the University of Redlands family and a Lifetime Trustee whose contributions to our University and the City of Redlands have left a lasting legacy.

Terry’s roots in Redlands ran deep, dating back to the early 1900s when his family first made their home here. His connection to the Bulldog community began during his student years, where he served as Treasurer of the Associated Students of the University of Redlands, wrote for the student newspaper, was a member of the swimming and diving team, a Yeoman, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Alpha Gamma Nu. He graduated with a degree in economics and went on to serve three years in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor.

Professionally, Terry excelled as a certified public accountant, dedicating nearly 30 years to Arthur Andersen & Co., where he served as an auditor, providing professional practice leadership across offices in Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Hawaii. Specializing in risk management, he also served as a litigation consultant to various law firms.

Terry’s passion for giving back to the University extended well beyond his time as a student. This dedication is reflected in his more than 30 years of service on the Board of Trustees. He also held numerous roles within the Alumni Reunion Committee, further strengthening connections among Redlands alumni.

Terry’s love for the City of Redlands was equally evident through his community service. Terry exemplified the University’s value of service through his lifetime engagement. Beyond his work with the University, Terry held leadership roles with the Redlands Alliance Church and the Redlands Historical Museum Association. He also volunteered with Redlands Meals on Wheels.

We will remember Terry not only for his remarkable professional accomplishments and generous service but also for his kindness, integrity, and love for this community. All of us who have had the privilege of knowing him will continue to feel the impact of his contributions.

Our hearts are with Terry’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. Please join us in honoring his life and legacy.

Final arrangements for Terry’s memorial service are still being finalized, and we will share the details with the University community as soon as they are confirmed.

Sincerely,
