University of Redlands and San Bernardino County collaborate to open new COVID-19 testing site

“We hope this agreement will be a significant step toward keeping our communities as safe as possible during the pandemic,” says University Dean of Student Affairs Donna Eddleman.

The University of Redlands and the County of San Bernardino have agreed to open an ongoing COVID-19 testing site on the U of R main campus in Redlands, where testing will be offered free of charge beginning on Monday, November 30. The site will serve both the general public and the University community.

“This is a win-win-win partnership,” says University Dean of Student Affairs Donna Eddleman. “Our University community gets convenient access to free COVID-19 testing; the larger Redlands community has a new testing site within easy reach; and the County facilitates an increase in testing to help limit local cases. We hope this agreement will be a significant step toward keeping our communities as safe as possible during the pandemic.”

Public parking will be available in the north Chapel parking lot off of Brockton Avenue, and the entrance to the clinic will be via the main (south) entrance to University Hall.

County Emergency Services Manager Daniel Munoz says, “San Bernardino County is honored to be invited onto such a prestigious campus. We are pleased that the school is willing to collaborate to ensure the health of their campus and the surrounding community.”

COVID-19 testing appointments—which are available Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—are required and can be booked at https://sbcovid19.com. Appointments for the following week become available on Thursday or Friday.

San Bernardino County testing sites use a self-administered nasal swab method that can be completed in as little as 30 seconds (a video provides a step-by-step guide). Polymerase chain reaction technology is used to detect the presence or absence of the virus, and results are provided text, email, or phone call, typically within three to five days.

The site will be located in U of R’s University Hall, whose parking lot entrance is on the south side of Brockton Avenue, between N. University and N. Grove Streets (look out for signage indicating public and University-designated parking). The clinic will use the main entrance to University Hall (south entry). Safety protocols, such as masks and physical distancing, will be enforced.

All participants will be asked to provide insurance information to help support the initiative; however, no one will be turned away due to lack of insurance, and no co-pay will be charged.
