Subject: Fall semester in the College of Arts and Sciences

We hope the fall semester is going well for you so far. We recognize the unusual challenges this time presents for everyone and are heartened by our community’s efforts to continue to teach, learn, and support the University’s mission of offering an engaged and personal education in this changed environment.

In our July 29 memo, we left the door open for pivoting during the fall semester to bring students back to our campuses and to reintroduce in-person and hybrid experiences with all necessary safety protocols. Given current state and county guidance, today we announce the decision to continue the rest of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) fall semester, which ends Monday, November 30, with remote teaching and learning. This does not change plans for teaching in the other U of R schools, which currently remain online.

We hope this information will help you in planning for the coming months. At the College, this decision will allow us to focus our efforts on planning for a successful spring semester. Further information about the spring semester will be provided by mid-October.

Again, thank you for your efforts.
