Course Description

In this course, we engage in the ethnographic method of participant observation to explore the city of Paris. We view consumption as a window into many rhythms of daily life, from shopping for food to riding the metro and spending time with family and friends. We experience and observe consumption in a range of venues, from cafes to parks, museums, and street corners. In the process, we study consumption as integral to our engagement with public space; the health of the environment; and diverse forms of citizenship, social belonging, and social inequality.

Applicable LAIs and LAFs

The course fulfills a Cross Cultural LAF, Social Science Practice and Thinking Globally LAI.
