Semester Long Study Away

STEP ONE: Attend organized events offered by the Study Away Office. At the Study Away General Information Sessions, staff will discuss important topics including approved program opportunities, the online application process and timeline, financial aid, and general policies and procedures. During Study Away Week, several University of Redlands program providers will hold information sessions about their programs and will be available to answer questions about their approved U of R offerings. We will also have staff and students available to provide information about our Salzburg Semester program.

Study Away Week  Fall 2021: September 15-17

Find complete study away week schedule here. We’ve put together a schedule of sessions to introduce students to the wide array of semester programs and May Term Travel courses we offer as well as resources on ways to fund study away experiences and get the best return on your investment in a study away program.

STEP TWO: Complete the University of Redlands study abroad application through the online portal in advance of the December 1st deadline. This application and deadline is for students seeking to study abroad for the fall 2022 or spring 2023 semester. Students must select and apply to a program through the study away portal. Students applying to a level C program (programs with limited enrollment space), must select a second choice program in their application, in the event that their application is not selected for their first choice program. Access the online portal here. Students should research options in advance and solicit guidance from their Academic Advisors and the Study Away Office to find a program that best fits their academic interests. The application deadline is final: there is no post-deadline petition process for late applications. The exception to this is for applications to U of R’s Salzburg Semester, or  select exchange programs, space permitting.

There is a $40 application fee that will be added directly to student accounts.

Study Away Application Deadline: Wednesday, December 1, 2021

STEP THREE: Once accepted, all students must complete U of R's post-acceptance requirements on the online portal, which includes completion of a Student Medical Questionnaire. This will also include specific directions for next steps students must then complete. These will vary based on the program selected. For students applying to partner programs, they must then complete program-specific applications. Students must only apply to the specific program or institution to which they applied through the U of R online application.

Program Specific Deadlines:

Fall 2022: February 15, 2022

Spring 2022: August 1, 2021

STEP FOUR: Confirm program specific acceptance to the Study Away Office via email upon being informed by the provider program. Send this email to Melissa Modesitt, Study Away Program Coordinator, at melissa_modesitt@redlands.edu.

Full Year Abroad: All undergraduate students are eligible for a single semester of study away as part of their University of Redlands’ education. A limited number of students interested in study away for a full academic year (not calendar year) are competitively selected for year awards. Interested students must answer yes to the related question when prompted in completing the online study away application and then write an essay in which they develop an exceptionally strong academic rationale for a full year abroad. This must be completed as part of the online application meaning the same regular application deadline is in effect. Late requests will not be accepted. A committee composed of University of Redlands faculty and administrators convene to select applicants on a competitive basis, if and when warranted.
