Opportunities for Involvement

Within the Rochford College Access Program we have several opportunities for University of Redlands students to get involved. Please read below for brief descriptions and applications. ALL staff (Mentors and Fellows) must complete Redlands Unified School District volunteer clearance paperwork. Please download, print, complete, and return to the RUSD district office.

Rochford Mentors
Rochford scholars are mentored twice a week, at their school sites, from 3:30-4:30pm throughout the school year. Mentoring begins on September 3rd, 2019 and we are actively recruiting interested mentors. Please complete the application if you feel this would be an ideal opportunity to get involved. Applicants will be interviewed, and if hired, will need to complete Redlands Unified School District clearance in order to begin working as mentors. Please contact Dr. Greg Hamilton with any questions.

Rochford Fellows
There are four opportunities to be involved with our Saturday Academies which are held six-eight times per semester. One may be involved with several teams if interested. (Not all teams will work with Rochford Scholars, or their families, every Saturday Academy. Please see our calendar under the "Application and Important Dates" page.) Please complete the application if you feel this would be an ideal opportunity to get involved. Applicants will be interviewed, and if hired, will need to complete Redlands Unified School District clearance in order to begin working as fellows. Please contact Jennifer King with any questions.

1. English supplemental instruction:We are looking for educators who would like to get some hands-on experience designing curriculum, planning lessons, and teaching our English sessions. This is done collaboratively as a team with input from a team lead and using RUSD standards as a guide. The goal of this English supplemental instruction is to help students have grade-level, or above, skills all while having FUN! (three - four sessions per semester.)

2. Math supplemental instruction: Again, we are looking for educators who would like to get some hands-on experience designing curriculum, planning lessons, and teaching our math sessions. This is done collaboratively as a team with input from a team lead and using RUSD standards as a guide. The goal of this math supplemental instruction is to help students reach grade-level, or above, skills all while having FUN! (three - four sessions per semester.)

3. College Preparation/Access: This team of educators works together to design fun, engaging activities and curriculum that will prepare students for college, help them learn who they are and what they want to be, and expose them to information and expectations they were previously unaware of. The design and plan for each grade level of Rochford Scholars will be different in order to meet needs appropriately. (six - eight sessions per semester.)

4. Family Academy: All Rochford Scholars will be the first in their families to attend college. As such, their families attend their own academies to learn how to support their children in the best ways possible and to familiarize themselves with the college preparation and higher education. These parents are highly committed to attending these academies and want to do everything they can to help their children. Spanish speakers are needed but it is not required in order to be part of this unique team. (Two sessions per semester.)
