Middle School Program Design
This is a supplemental service for Rochford Scholars that is available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons beginning at 3:30 p.m. at middle school sites where Rochford Scholars are enrolled. Mentoring specific to Math, English, and Science coursework will be offered. Weekly mentoring is supervised by the mentoring director. Mentors will be School of Education graduate students and undergraduate University of Redlands students.
Rochford Scholars will be required to attend six to eight Saturday Academy sessions per semester. Sessions will be held at the University of Redlands and the Burrage Mansion. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. Students will receive supplemental instruction in English and Math while also learning a college-going curriculum and being exposed to extracurricular/cultural development activities. Two snacks will be provided and parents/families must provide transportation to and from Saturday Academies. Academic sessions will be led by School of Education graduate assistants and graduate students. Graduate students will lead the college access curriculum sessions. Supervision will be provided by the program director.
The aim of the Family Academy is to provide Rochford Scholars with a college-going culture that extends beyond the school and program into their home life. Parents, or a family member, will be required to attend two (2) Family Academy sessions per semester where information specific to support Rochford Scholars will be shared and discussed as a group. Topics of Family Academy sessions will vary and include suggestions from parents/family members but will focus on supporting student success. Lunch will be provided for all participants, family-style, on Family Academy sessions. Additionally, we hope that parents will participate as members of the Advisory Board as important voices in the program's ongoing mission to meet the needs of our participants.
Varies every summer according to the Rochford Scholar needs. Summer 2019 will consist of three Saturday sessions during June and July culminating in Family Night at Burrage mansion in August.
