Examination of some of the most important technological developments of this century and their impact on human lives. Examination of the complex relationship between humans, the environment, and technology.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic concepts, principles, and theories behind current scientific knowledge, applications, and technological inventions.
  2. Think critically about the connections between science and technology, and its impact upon society and the environment.
  3. Explain technological advancement in various scientific fields i.e. agriculture, medicine, transportation, energy, and communication.
  4. Assess the transition from science to technology and its political evolution.
  5. Recognize how science and technology is used to create change socially, economically, environmentally, and politically.
  6. Recognize how science and technology is used in business and industry locally and globally.
  7. Apply scientific data, research, and analysis in debates about science, technology, and environmental issues.
