"Cool Kid" Joseph Gil pursues his dream at U of R coding boot camp

High school student Joseph Gil has a coding dream that is becoming a reality through the Coding Boot Camp at the U of R School of Continuing Studies. ABC7 featured Joseph on "Cool Kids."

About the instructor

Joseph ChengJoseph Cheng holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. He is currently teaching web development, programming, and information technology with Platt College. From web programmer to software development, Joseph has over seventeen years of experience in the fields of web development and programming. At the start of his career, Joseph built websites for various companies. He even implanted new systems to help with efficiency and trained several departments within the companies that utilized them. His ingenuity in the field led him to work at WarGames where he designed and assembled the systems. His instinct to lead in the field makes him a natural when it comes to teaching students.

Joseph is familiar with various programming languages and operating systems. He is also knowledgeable of graphics/multimedia applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Autodesk 3DS Max.

Project Based. Design. Build. Create. Learn the fundamentals of front-end and back-end web development, including the foundations of computer programming, using some of the latest web technologies in a fast-paced format. Topics include: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap, Command Line, JSON, MySQL, Node.js, and responsive web design.

Learn in-demand web development and coding skills in a fast-paced, hands-on format. Much of course time will be spent creating a professional portfolio by designing and building a website and web applications using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Node.js, MySQL, and JSON. This course will prepare students to start their education for web and software development.
