Getting Started with OpenStreetMap and Humanitarian Mapping

Maps and digital data have played crucial roles in humanitarian aid eg. disaster response. Although it is of best interest to help local communities through generating data and features on the map, humanitarian actors and mappers should take note that we are not only mapping features (houses, roads, waterways, etc), but also mapping the land, oceans, and communities who live and are stewards of that space. With this webinar, we want to examine and discuss this balance (community digital information), decolonizing open data and open mapping, and representation and power in humanitarian mapping, among others.

Georeferencing Historic Maps

Quite often, research involves using historical maps to identify locations and patterns to compare them to contemporary situations. Learn how to georeference, associate a digital image file with locations in physical space, a historical in ArcGIS Pro to enhance your research.

GIS Pathways

The GIS pathway curriculum is designed with a focus on balancing both geographic information science and the cutting-edge geospatial technologies that are suitable for beginners. By following the pathway program curriculum, undergraduates will gain a solid understanding of geographic principles, greatly improve their technical skills of using GIS software, and enhance their problem-solving capabilities through learning various applications of GIS, which eventually enables them to have a smooth transition to our highly reputable GIS graduate programs and obtain their master’s degree during their fifth year at Redlands.

Insights for ArcGIS is an ArcGIS Online app that enables exploration of spatial and non-spatial data. The tool can be used to discover trends and identify patterns as part of an inductive reasoning process. In this workshop, we will introduce Insights for ArcGIS Online and help you complete a brief exercise in which you use the app to conduct a spatial inquiry.”

Introduction to ArcGIS Online

An introduction and overview on ArcGIS Online. Learn how to create data, use tools and make maps to use in StoryMaps and online applications.

Mobile Mapping

Collector for ArcGIS, a mobile data collection app, makes it easy to capture accurate data and return it to the office. Fieldworkers use web maps on mobile devices to capture and edit data. Collector for ArcGIS works even when disconnected from the Internet and integrates seamlessly into ArcGIS. During this hands-on workshop, we will differentiate Collector for ArcGIS from Survey123 for ArcGIS, show how to deploy Collector, and give participants a chance to use the tool.

Esri's ArcGIS QuickCapture is a new app designed to make collecting field observations easy. In this hands-on workshop, Steve Moore will introduce you what QuickCapture can do and show you how to set up a QuickCapture template for data collection.

Esri Story Maps provide an innovative way to convey spatial narratives with live online maps, text, photos, and video. During this hands-on workshop, we will introduce you to the principles of good storytelling with maps and how to create story maps using Esri’s technology. Featured in this workshop will be Esri’s new story map builder.

Survey 123

Almost anything can be mapped with ArcGIS Survey123: public opinions, favorite places, safe and unsafe locations, trash bins, neighborhood artwork, political graffiti, trees, animals, and litter. In this hands-on workshop, we will introduce you to Survey123 for ArcGIS, an Esri tool used to do field data collection. Part of the Esri Geospatial Cloud, Survey123 for ArcGIS is a complete, form-centric solution for creating, sharing and analyzing surveys. Use it to create smart forms with skip logic, defaults, and support for multiple languages. Collect data via web or mobile devices, even when disconnected from the Internet. Analyze results quickly, and upload data securely for further analysis.

UAV FAA Pilot Preparation

Besides being fun to fly, drones can be a ticket to jobs with geospatial companies, film studios, commercial photographers, law enforcement, and other employers. This workshop will cover current regulations regarding use of drones for commercial and noncommercial purposes, requirements for becoming a licensed drone pilot, and how to fly a quadcopter drone.
