TEAMMATES-LL Scholarship Program

Transdisciplinary Educational And Multicultural/Multilingual Approaches for Teaching Elementary Students - Language and Literacy

A unique new interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary training program for MMSN and CDIS students, funded by the US Department of Education - Office of Special Education Programs.

Scholarship Details

Participants will receive scholarships to support the completion of either the:

  • Master of Arts in Learning and Teaching (MALT), leading to a Mild- Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) Education Specialist Credential


  • Master of Science (MS) in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CDIS), leading to a Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Credential, ASHA SLP certification, and California SLP license

Project TEAMMATES-LL scholars enrolled in either program will receive specialized training in implementing scientifically based and culturally responsive language and literacy assessments and interventions with children in local elementary schools, with an emphasis on family and community engagement.

Eligibility Requirements

  • We welcome applications from all students of all backgrounds, and candidates from racially minoritized backgrounds, such as Black and Latinx, are encouraged to apply. The University of Redlands is a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution and is committed to promoting best practices in diversity, equity and inclusion for all community members.
  • Applicants must be committed to supporting language and literacy development in elementary-school students with special instructional needs.
  • After applying to either the MALT-MMSN or the MS-CDIS programs, applicants will be invited to apply for Project TEAMMATES-LL.
  • Candidates will commit to a three-year (MMSN) or four-year (CDIS) minimum service obligation of employment in a public school district within San Bernardino or Riverside counties, following the completion of the program.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with bilingual or bidialectal skills (in Spanish or African American Vernacular English); however, speakers of other languages/dialects will also be considered.

Application Information

If you are interested in the TEAMMATES-LL scholarship opportunity, you must apply to either the MALT-MMSN (EDSP) program, January 2024 or January 2026 start date, or the MS-CDIS program, August 2023 or August 2025 start date, and then you will be invited to apply for the TEAMMATES-LL project.

NOTE:  We are currently accepting TEAMMATES-LL applications for MALT-MMSN (EDSP) program candidates who will begin in January 2024. Please email us for an application. We will begin the next round of applications to TEAMMATES-LL for MS-CDIS candidates in January 2025.
