Taylor van Amerongen '08
Chicago, Illinois
Emphasis: Race and Ethnic Studies, Identity and Media

During the two years that Taylor van Amerongen lived in Bekins Hall, he considered its porch just another kind of classroom. "Students are always there talking about life, their classes, or their contracts. There's a constant debate and discourse going on at Johnston. I love that."

In true Johnston fashion, Taylor moved off complex when he realized the move would push him to grow. In his junior and senior years, he was a resident of the Rangi Ya Giza (RYG) House, a non-Greek brotherhood that raises awareness about diversity issues. "The focus of RYG relates directly to my emphasis… There are so many ways for us to bridge the practical and theoretical aspects of our learning at Johnston."
